Grandma

Thallian's grandma is the kind that acts like a teenager, regardless of her wrinkles.

On the radar: Excitebots: Trick Racing

I don't have much time to say much about this, but if you haven't played excite truck, go buy it in the discount used games heap and you'll see why ExciteBots might be your favorite game of this year. 6 player online multiplayer as well. Much better than Excite Truck's two player with no enemy cars. Releases April 20th.

Meme time

I don't usually send forwarded messages or participate in this kind of stuff, but since it makes Thallian and I feel so special to get recognized by friendly bloggers, here I go nonetheless. Thanks to Oakstout and Crimson Starfire for nominations.

The Meme code follows:

This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant.

Meme rules:
  1. When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real.
  2. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the seven random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
  3. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on!

Seven Brilliant Blogs (The last three have already been Meme'd, but I really don't follow enough blogs, so I just want to tag them back and make sure they know why I enjoy their blogs):
  1. Toon Club - A blog set up by some people who went to the same university as me. Some very brilliant artists on here are posting artwork fairly regularly based on (almost) weekly topics.
  2. Character Design - A university classmate made this as a class project, then it took off as the number one blog resource for people interested in learning about professional character designers. He sent a set of interview questions
  3. Tobold - Tobold has a large following of readers, and it's obviously because he keeps his blog updated almost on a daily basis. Good, often very clever writing, with plenty of good info about current trends, as well as discussion of MMO concepts. Worth a look!
  4. The Battered Shield - Khan talks about MMO experiences. It's fun to follow, and he writes in a way you can relate to as a player.
  5. The Oakstout - I read Oakstout's posts because he always seems to be doing interesting things. LAN parties to play WoW? That's just rad.
  6. Word of Shadow - Melf and Crimson keep this blog and talk about their games, other games, game ideas and such. I enjoy reading what they have to say, and occasionally posting comments to see if I can get an argument going.
  7. Dragon Chasers - I've generally enjoyed reading this blog for its game and game-related technology reviews. I laugh every time I read the headline: Dragon Chasers-But what will you do when you catch one???

More than you ever wanted to know about me:
  1. I'm married almost 5 years now, and my son is almost 2.
  2. I met Thallian when I got a job at the University's Center for Instructional Design. I was a new artist, and he'd been programming there for a year+.
  3. Thallian was making an RPG maker game when we first met; I made some custom art for that game.
  4. I grew up in California, moved to Utah for school, and somehow ended up staying in Utah.
  5. I made my first (sloppy) cartoon in 3rd grade using a 300-pack of copy paper, a pencil, and our home video camera.
  6. I made my first video game in 5th grade using Hypercard, and posted it on America Online. 300 people downloaded it and probably wondered what the heck it was.
  7. I started WoW 2 years ago, but I would have loved to have started playing an MMO 6 years ago...The reason I waited was monthly fees and hardware requirements.
  8. Thallian and I are in fact planning to make an independent pc game together, but I'm holding it up because I still have a separate Independent game I'm making with another partner that is taking much longer to complete than I originally expected.
  9. I'm currently building my portfolio and applying for jobs since the game studio I was at has all but closed its doors. I've already applied at Disney, Blizzard, Cryptic and about 30 others.
  10. Unless my job situation prevents me, I'm making a trip to California at the end of the month for Thallian's bachelor party.

Excuses Excuses

Hey I'm sorry I haven't been posting and I wont be posting for a little bit. Real life has critted on me for eleventy billion damage and the corpse walk is taking a while. In other words my wedding in in 19 days 4 hours and 22 seconds... tick tick :P And if you don't see me much please don't think that Anton killed me and took over the blog, it just means I'm having a great honeymoon. or.. something. I estimate I'll be back to work on the 16th of May or so, and I'll regale you with pictures of my tropical adventures perhaps. I have quite a few of taiwan already. (We're going to Bohol, Philippines and Kauai, Hawaii for the honeymoon since its on the way home, sorta (second reception is in the Philippines)) I asked Anton to do an honest scrap page so hopefully its coming up. If not I'll make one later somehow ;) He's busy too so go easy on him. (and yes, that's bohol in the stolen picture)

In Defense of OnLive

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7976206.stm

Apparently there have been a lot of naysayers and the OnLive team is prickling about it so they are explaining in more detail how much work they've done over the years and why this will work. Etc.. check it out if you're interested. I personally tend to give people more "benefit of the doubt" points than your average Joe as in the case of Darkfall, I didn't think it was vaporware, though I still havent bought the game. In the case of Metaplace, I don't think its vaporware, I just don't know how far its going to go yet, and in the case of OnLive I feel pretty similar to Metaplace. It may really catch on or not depending on marketing, licensing hitches, distribution, lag, and other issues. We'll see.

In other news, I played book 2 through with my guardian and my kin awith no healer and just my buddy Dan on his burgla doing healing conjunctions. Burglar heals ftw! It actually is a really fun and daring way to try and do instances since your heals are less guaranteed but still effective.
