Here's what I figured out today... transparency in pngs via 2D sprites and Embedded fonts, this one is Garamond. (As well as floating text) Next I'm gonna add a bubble and work on 3D sprites somehow.
For what it's worth, transparency is a huge pain in the neck even for the "professionals". I've dealt with a LOT of alpha issues in my time in the industry. There are good reasons why WoW uses single bit alpha.
Its good to know it's not just me, heh. Since all images are square thanks to windows and everything just working that way, transparency is certainly a must.
Reclaimers of Rhuidia follows the story of a few heroes' attempt to save their kingdom. Mostly, it will be a unique tactical RPG. We're hoping for an XBox Live and PC release.
